Frequently Asked Questions

What Is Legal Coaching?

Legal coaching is a service provided by the legal industry, whereby the client is given guidance by a lawyer-coach. The lawyer-coach will explain the behind-the-scenes mechanics of the law, guiding and teaching their client, giving them the soft and hard skills of lawyering. Legal coaching enables self-represented litigants to perform to the highest standard, as the lawyer-coach will have explained the necessary legal strategies, tactics and tools that will enable the client to present their case in an effective and water-tight way.

What Does the Client Learn through Legal Coaching?

Self-representing clients are able to learn a great deal from legal coaching, as it equips them with the most relevant and salient legal knowledge. The lawyer-coach will provide information, strategic advice and assistance – as well as practical tips – so that the client has a case that is both persuasive and legally-sound.

What Is the Purpose of Legal Coaching?

The aim of legal coaching is to help the client to analyse the case that they wish to present, giving them the time and space to objectively understand their arguments, as well as to look realistically at their current legal status and situation. A legal coach will assist the client in a number of ways, particularly encouraging them to examine their actions to-date so they can plan ahead, giving consideration to their objectives and intentions.

Legal coaching will raise the client’s awareness of the ‘bigger picture’, as well as identifying the best path forward. Legal coaching shines a light on the case, clarifying the client’s goals and motivations – whilst also unlocking their potential, enabling them to improve their performance and optimise their case.

A legal coach can answer any questions regarding the client’s case, giving specific insight into all of the relevant legalities. Depending on the case, the legal coach may be present throughout the case – or alternatively, they may join at the end of the process to review the legal documents before they are submitted.

A legal coach may also be used to move a case forward should it get ‘stuck’ in the legal system, and they are able to amend and revise legal documents that have been rejected by the courts. By offering tips on documentation, litigation, negotiation and strategy, a legal coach can help to avoid costly and time-consuming mistakes.
