The International Tax Planning Association, usually referred to as ITPA, is an association of professionals from multiple disciplines, each of whom have an interest in the tax aspects of transactions taking place across frontiers.
These include lawyers, bankers, accountants, finance directors and trust officers. The Association mainly examines the subject of cross-frontier tax from the perspective of the taxpayer, meaning membership is limited to those members of professions that act in taxpayer interests.
Dr Edgar Paltzer is a subscriber member of the ITPA as an attorney-at-law specialising in estate planning. A general description of tax planning services can be found in the PDF attachment to this post.
International tax planning can be a lot more complex as directives from multiple tax authorities need to be implemented.
ITPA Conferences
ITPA hosts three conferences annually, each one featuring a series of discussion sessions and talks as well as opportunities to network and mingle throughout the course of the day over food and drinks.
The general structure of each conference begins with talks from distinguished speakers in the mornings. This is followed by lunch, then afternoon discussion sessions where attendees are able to explore topics of interest in more detail by directly addressing the speakers.
One key benefit of ITPA membership is the unique opportunity to network and form partnerships with contemporaries and other professionals in different jurisdictions, opening up discussions and relationships that can prove invaluable.
The conferences are deliberately not overcrowded to provide multiple opportunities for networking without too much bustle and distraction. Transcripts and summaries of past ITPA conference talks are displayed on the Association’s website.
ITPA Publications
Supplementing the information than can be learned at conferences are six publications issued by the ITPA each year, comprised of three issues each of the ITPA Journal and the ITPA News. The ITPA News provides members with a summarised version of the most recent conference’s proceedings, along with the programme for the following two events and details on how to book. The ITPA Journal also offers an edited text of conference proceedings.
ITPA Website
Members of the ITPA also have full access to the Association’s website, which provides a plethora of useful information. This includes a full directory of contact details for all members, facilitating partnerships across multiple jurisdictions. The online Yearbook encourages members to share both their knowledge and practical experience in their own specialist areas of tax planning and international tax legislation. Members are also entitled to install a reciprocal hyperlink between the Association’s Links@itpa website page and their own website, which helps drive traffic.

International Tax Planning
International tax planning as a discipline has become even more important and challenging in the wake of the 2008 global financial crisis, as new directives, regulations and legislations came into place across international jurisdictions. The main goal of international tax planning is to address properly the increased transparency through a global exchange of tax information and to make sure that clients are entirely tax compliant.
International tax planning facilitates the simplification of existing tax structures by tax-paying entities around the world, bringing privacy benefits and asset protections to international clients alongside compliance with the regulations of multiple tax authorities worldwide.
